I personally find it extremely fun and challenging to master Garcia's tone and licks, and I find it the best complement of anything I do in life (except for being a dad) to hear that I've nailed Garcia's tone and style in my band. For me, its not only a labor of love, but a labor of necessity. I've wanted to play and sound like Jerry since I started seriously studying the Dead in 1983. I am indebted to the great advice I have received and followed from Rukind, most especially the relationship, advice, and I must say, mentoring, I have and continue to receive from Waldo. From equipment to playing style, I couldn't be happier going to down the rabbit hole. I wish John Mayer would go down it a bit more than just the Mutron as far as tone goes. Playing style I'm ok with, although for me, I'm more of a Jerry lick guy. Cheers, MMLayRong wrote:Howdy everyone. I've been a lurker on this forum for a bit and have finally joined up. I play guitar with a Dead tribute band out of Syracuse,NY. We call ourselves Pearly Baker's Best and are currently doing some dates backing up David Gans. I have been pretty resistant to "going down the rabbit hole" and copping Garcia's licks and tones since I don't wish to be pigeon holed as another "Jerry" guy.
